the popular literature
There was a national bureaucratic selection examination system called the Imperial Examination in China. (科挙・ka-kyo)
It starts in the era of the Sui dynasty and lasted until late of the Qing dynasty.
With a few exceptions、all men were able to take this examination.
And if they pass it、they could become the government officials of the dynasty.
Every men who aspire to politics、they aimed to pass this examination.
Note:The Sui dynasty. (581AD-619AD)
Imperial examination. (until 1905AD)
Therefore this system does not exist in the era of the Han dynasty.
※For example、during the Tang dynasty、foreign students from Japan became high-ranking officials of the dynasty (but it's not clear if that's the result of his passing the exam).

It's early in the Yuan Dynasty.
The Yuan Dynasty (元・gen 1271AD-1368AD) is a dynasty by the Mongols.

Confucianism has finally established itself as the state religion.
