処理しやすいようにまず集める、という手法は理解しましたが、その時、森林・建造物などの過度の破壊をともなう、というのは、今後は無い方がいいですね（今後それが行われるというのは、おれの未熟ゆえ、ですけど・偉そうですね）。そこに新しい需用が生まれるのかもしれませんけど、やっぱり建設（そこに込められた意志も）は大変（大切）ですもん。現在、おれはこの世界を実感として知っているとは言えませんが、世界は素晴らしく決して壊してはならないという考えに同意します。

parenchyma became lost already
Above was farmer's debt only.
The Utsu family is a branch family of the Ōkubo family、the feudal lord of Odawara.
Their's territory was Yokota village、Monoi village and Higashinuma village.
Incidentally、their's territory has been integrated and renamed to Ninomiya town currently. (in Tochigi Prefecture.)
And by the way Ninomiya is Kinjiro's surname.
※I only write from memory, but in the Edo period, Japan was a feudal system, and farmers were not allowed to use surnames.
Some peasants had "hidden surnames" but were not allowed to use them in official settings.
For example、there is a "hidden surname" in the samurai family lineage that returned to farming on the side of the losers when the Tokugawa Shogunate was established.
And I think there was a surname as a "common name" such as the name of the village where they lived.
However、they could not use that surname in public.
I think it was like that (inaccurate).
I think Kinjirō would later become a samurai class (inaccurate)、but I don't know why he called himself "Ninomiya". 20221009。
Rice yield of this land、it was regarded as 4000 goku.
This number was very important.
Because this era、their's status was determined by the yield of rice in their territory.
In short、Utsu family was the status of 4000 goku.

The population in 1698 was about 1900 people in 400 families (4.75 people per family).
Assuming an annual tax rate of 50%、tax revenue of 2000 goku was expected.
But in 1822、the population decreased sharply to 156 family 749 people (1 Family 4.8 people).
And their real tax revenue was about 700 koku.
※700÷2000=0.35
156÷400=0.39※
According to Hōtoku-ki.
"Around the early 17th century、440 family、tax revenue of about 3100 bales.
But current、140 family、tax revenue of about 800 bales.
And every family is very poor."

According to Kinjiro's letter of resignation in 1828.
"For a hundred years until 1821、the Utsu family was under the patronage of the Odawara clan.
However、as a result、there were about 250 farm households in the territory, and the population decreased by about 1000 people.
Tax revenue is rice of about 1000 bales and 127 ryō of the field crop.
Officially tax revenue figures has become meaningless already."

More than anything、they (the Utsu family) were already in debt of 50 ryo from merchants in Edo in 1780.
(Its mortgage was the annual rice tax for the following year.)
Six years later 1786、they have borrowed 600 ryō from Odawara clan as restoration expense of flood damage.
(Financial assistance of Odawara clan was followed regularly.)
This was more than their annual income.
However it was so-called a drop in the bucket.
Eight years later 1794、they made another debt of 200 ryō from the same merchant (non-interest bearing、20 annual installments).
But they did not pay it back from the first year.
(Probably、they were not able to it.)
Their finances had collapsed.

"Now、the Utsu family spends most of its income on debt repayment.
And population has continued to decline.
Of course if this goes on、debt will also continued to increase."
Tax revenue of about 4000 bales at 4000 goku.
This goal setting is not realistically in the first place.
Here is a land of 2000 goku at best.
And therefore we should aim to tax revenue of about 2000 bales."
The results of a detailed survey、Kinjiro concluded so.

be ambitious
Kinjiro was entrusted with the financial reconstruction of the Utsu family.
The original impetus for this was that he demonstrated his skill in the financial reconstruction of the chief retainers of the Odawara clan.
"Hattori Jūrobee" of Odawara clan's chief retainer. (服部十郎兵衛)
His family line has been the chief retainer of the Odawara clan for generations.
Their's territory was 1300 koku according to Hōtoku-ki.
(1200 koku according to recent chronology.)
In 1812、when Kinjiro was 26 years old、he started working in Hattori home.
※In the case of daimyo、although there is its rank、there are many cases where there are multiple chief retainer.
It may be easier to understand "daimyo's minister".※
※If the number ends in a thousand or more、it is pronounced "goku".
If the last number is less than 1000、it is pronounced "koku".

Kinjiro bought back their's paddy field in 1806 and he began to write the household account book from the following year.
"Know exactly own's current income."
After this、this became the model for Kinjiro's financial reforms.
He calculated the surplus rice after the harvest and lent it to others with interest (as a seed rice？).
Of course、at the same time he would have sold the surplus rice to the rice merchant.
And he saving its profits and bought paddy field little by little.
In short、"commonplace.”
There was not special things there.

Probably Kinjiro had ambition in politics.
(In later years、he submitted a written opinion on the administration of the Odawara domain.)

But the era was feudalism、it was class system of course.
And Kinjiro was a farmer.
However、class system in Japan was not strict at that time.
Though there were many constraints、farmers able to got involved in administration by own's ability.
(The best example would be Kinjiro.)
But for that purpose they had to be recognized by government at first.
So、Kinjiro also had to be recognized by the Odawara clan at first.
※Of course、at this point、there is a possibility that he was hired by Odawara clan as a promising person in the territory.
