Born October 26, 1919, died July 27, 1980, Cairo. The second king of Iran's Pahlavi dynasty (reigned 1941-1979). Known as the Shah of Iran. "Alyar Mehr" was a title. The eldest son of Reza Shah, he became crown prince in 1925. Educated in Switzerland and studied at Iran's Military University. When Reza Shah abdicated with the Allied occupation of Iran in 1941, he ascended to the throne in his place. He came into conflict with Mossadegh, who represented the nationalist movement during the oil nationalization movement from 1950 to 1953. In August 1953, the Shah ordered the dismissal of Prime Minister Mossadegh, but he was forced to flee the country.
