philosophy of salvation

According to the book of Shiba Ryotarou san.

The mainstream of Buddhism in Japan around the 8th century was the Hosso sect or the Yuishiki sect. 法相宗 唯識宗

"Only those who have endured rigorous training can become Buddhas."
They had such a principle.

※In my layman's opinion、it don't mean to they become the historical Buddha himself、but rather to become saints who stand beside the Buddha in the heavens. 2023031307:51 (japan time).

"Their Buddhism is not the teaching of the Buddha itself、but merely an accumulation of the original research of later scholars (theories、not the Buddha's Teachings).
I want to know the Buddha's teaching itself."

There was a person who thought that way、and that was Saicho、who would later become the founder of the Tendai sect of Japanese Buddhism. 天台宗

According to Shiba san、it can be said that Japanese Buddhism at that time was a collection of huge theories、also、in some cases they contradicted each other.

・・・・・・・・・

"All people are born with the disposition to become Buddhas."

Philosophy of salvation.
The Tendai sect will create such a great doctrine.

※As a direct fact、Saicho  imported ideas from China (he went to China as an exchange student).
And at that time、the Tendai sect had already become an outdated sect of thought in China.※

Saicho doubted the mainstream sect's "theory" and reached in this Tendai doctrine.
The mainstream sect in Japan became sect of the past at a stretch by emergence of this new sect of Buddhism.

※He himself chose the doctrine of Tendai.

・・・・・・・・・

"If everyone can become a Buddha by nature, why should I endure the rigorous training?"

People of "old Buddhism".
Of course、they repelled against Saicho.
One of them was Tokuichi.

As I wrote before、Tokuichi was a high priest of the Hosso sect.
And it is said that he built Enitiji Temple in Aizu、Fukushima.

And this is also a legend、but he is said to be the son of Fujiwara-no-Nakamaro、who resumed the conquest.

At that time、Nakamaro was an incomparable influential person.
However、he lost his position after a power struggle.
And he lost the rebellion and his entire family was executed by the victors.
Only his son、who was a monk、survived.
It is said that this monk later Tokuichi.

※I think that in ancient China、there was a custom (?) not to kill all of them、because it would curse the people if the rituals were stopped. 2023031309:01 (japan time).

Of course it's a mere legend and these are historical facts.
The Hosso sect was a one of the mainstream sect in Japan.
And Tokuichi was representative of their sect.

Aizu at that time was near the border outpost.
There is no doubt that he was in this land.

"Why was he on such a remote border?"

I don't know.

・・・・・・・・・

I think、religion and violence is one set for aggression.
In fact、there are many such cases、is not it?

However、if he was son of Nakamaro.
He was one of the representatives of the spirit of a passing age、but he had lost his entire family to his father's power struggles.
I think it is no wonder that he prayed for the victims of this conquest wars that his father had started.

※I think "become a Buddha" in the mainstream sect is "salvation of my soul".
"become a Buddha" in the Tendai sect is "salvation of souls".※

※I think it will come out later、and I fear misunderstandings due to my lack of explanation、but in later years this Tendai sect will transform into an image of a group of rogues who wear "divine power" and repeat tyranny. 2023031309:17 (japan time).

※According to my memory, the name of this saved monk was "薩男・Satsuo (his name may be pronounced differently)". 2023031314:38 (japan time).

platinum

I will continue this topic、but according to Shiba Ryotaro san's book.

The Hosso sect launched a religious dispute against Saicho、but as a result、it ended in Saicho's victory.

He also won a dispute with other sects at the royal palace where the nobles watched.
And also、he won another controversy.
Therefore、mainstream Buddhism at the time lost all disputes with him.

In the first place、regardless of the quality of their brains、the controversy between these two "Buddhism" itself may have been unreasonable.
When the spirit of the times would change、they had no way except lose.

※It's like advocating with omniscient omnipotence the "heliocentric theory" at a meeting where the "geocentric theory" is common sense (lol)?2023031315:32 (japan time).

※I don't know anything about that real.

※Or did Saicho rationally criticize the many contradictions in the religious theory that everyone knew about but had overlooked until then?2023031315:32 (japan time).

※I don't think that's the case with Tokuichi san、but because Saicho san has just brought back the systematic doctrine of the Tendai sect from China、it is possible that the so-called Nara Buddhism people were not able to find out about the doctrine (in particular、scrutiny of its shortcomings・lol).
Of course、I think that it will be a tightrope controversy even from Saicho san's standpoint (possibly overnight crammed study style・lol). 2023031317:10 (japan time).

And their final trump card was Tokuichi of Aizu.

・・・・・・・・・

The dispute between Tokuichi and Saicho lasted for 12 years.
Their means of dispute was by letter.

As a result of having survived numerous controversies、Saicho was better at "controversial methods" than Tokuichi.
He was always "winning by decision" against Tokuichi.

And because of Saicho's victory in this controversy.

"All people have the innate property to become Buddhas."

We were able to have such a tradition in Japanese Buddhism as if it had been carved in platinum.
